Do you know anyone who is on a “detox” or a “cleanse”?
Often times especially at this time of the year, with all the new year’s resolutions going around, I hear people talking about detoxing. Then I wonder later on, if they continued this regimen and what if anything was the outcome.
Last week a friend had to change a lunch date because she told me she was on a cleanse and couldn’t eat anything other than the “diet” she was following.
These “cleanses” both fascinate and perplex me.
What I don’t understand is what is it they are cleaning out? And why are they undertaking this practice? Is it pounds they’re looking to lose? Is it some mysterious thing that seems to be interfering with their daily life that’s making it less healthy?
Like most things today, there are tons and tons of information on the internet about “detoxing” your system. Almost every diet product and/or diet powder on the market, includes something to “detoxify” your system. Seems that most of them proclaim “weight loss”, “lose body fat fast”, “neutralize toxins in your system”, “watch that abdominal fat melt away”……the list goes on and on.
I’ve seen detox “kits”, books on detoxing, powders to be used in detoxing.
I even saw a “toxicity cleanse” on Facebook where it claimed that “Attaching sliced onion to your foot will help cure your illnesses overnight”. And this is probably one of the tamer ones out there!
Realize that you certainly don’t need to restrict calories, over consume liquids, do a fast, follow a strict regimen, or take large amounts of supplements in order to rid of all that blight.
And also know that detoxification is a big big business. Everyone from celebrities to books, tv shows, even some restaurants are selling it. I’ve even seen “detox” retreats!
It’s simply another one of our society’s “get well quick” fixes instead of simply following a healthier lifestyle!
Bottom line here is that nature has seen to it that your anatomy is designed to rid you naturally of all these noxious substances that some claim have taken up residence in their systems.
I’m more in favor of taking advantage of the body’s natural defenses against built-up toxins. For instance, sweating, urinating, and also elimination rids many toxins naturally and this of course hopefully takes place on a daily basis. Eating that healthy wholesome Mediterranean diet will assure that you’re on the right track.
This is how you aid and support the detoxifying system that is already built into your body.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle means your system will naturally detox daily because you are doing the following:
♥ Eating a healthy Mediterranean type diet
♥ Walking those 10,000 steps daily
♥ Drinking 6 glasses of water every day
♥ Getting 7-8 hours sleep
♥ Healthy Hint is remember to drink a glass of water with the juice of 1/2 a lemon added into the water every morning before breakfast. This is a natural way to help detox your liver.
Name of the game is if you’re following that healthy lifestyle that we talk about each week, your energy and oomph will improve as will your health!
There’s simply no substitute for that. And as far as those “detox cure-alls”, I think they will not clean up any ills, but will simply clean out your checking account – and you will still be seeking that sought after health and energy!
So follow my lead about living that healthy lifestyle so you will be healthy and energetic, with that added oomph without punishing your body or your wallet!
