Sugar is sweet – I doubt that anyone would disagree with that.
However, there are many reasons why I gave up all that sweet stuff over 10 years ago. Let’s talk about that sweet confection and how getting it out of your system will put you on top of the world!
A few months ago, I was enjoying a breakfast meeting with five lovely women all in the health field. When I mentioned that I don’t eat sugar, they all laughed and said that’s just impossible.
They were absolutely right!
Sugar is literally found in almost everything you put in your mouth.
It’s heavily found in processed foods, breads, bagels, pasta, many canned foods, and of course all those desserts and sodas. These are basically things I do not eat. My diet primarily consists of fruits and veggies, beans, fish, chicken, nuts and seeds – a Mediterranean style way of eating.
Fruits and vegetables do contain sugar, but your body handles that sugar quite differently than the sugar in that chocolate cake. Your system recognizes where it’s coming from and processes it in a way that promotes a good healthy immune system. Your system requires some form of sugar for energy – that which is found in fruits and vegetables. These are natural sugars which contain vitamins and minerals which in turn allow your system to flourish.
So how do you “give up” sugar?
How do you handle all those cravings? How can you turn down that scrumptious looking homemade chocolate cake? And more important, why would you put your system through this most uncomfortable thing to do?
It’s actually just temporary discomfort, but look at the prize. That prize is so high up on the wish list, I would say it’s number one!
Because what’s more important than your health? I think we’ve all seen that in these past few months!
This is what you could look forward to when you keep your sugar input to that amount which comes strictly from nature’s fruits and vegetables:
♥ Glowing Skin – sugar causes premature aging of your skin
♥ Great energy – your body is not bogged down attempting to digest all that sugar
♥ Lower blood pressure as well as healthier levels of fat and insulin levels in the bloodstream
♥ Good steady mood – sugar causes mood swings
♥ Better quality sleep – lack of sugar will reduce the number of times you wake up during the night
♥ Weight loss – eating healthier foods which do not contain all that sugar keeps your system weight right where it should be
♥ Improved heart health – sugar causes increased triglyceride and “bad” LDL cholesterol levels
♥ Liver will be protected – excess fructose and glucose can lead to a toxic build-up in your liver
♥ Improved digestion – all that energy trying to digest sugary foods will be avoided making that process work the way it was intended
♥ Better dental health – sugar promotes cavities and decay which in turn impacts your health
♥ Diabetes – lack of sugar helps handle diabetes if you have it. Can aid in preventing adult onset diabetes
It takes approximately 3 days to rid your body of all the sugar in your system.
So know you will not feel your best during that time of giving up sugar.
But no worries because during that time, there are still good things going on in your system. And once that initial phase passes, you’ll feel more energetic, focused, and calm.
Friends, I cannot emphasize enough what giving up sugar has done for my overall health. I attribute my energy and my ongoing health to that. Realize that giving up sugar will have a significant impact on your health.
And that’s what we’re all about here because we know you cannot love life if you’re not up to par!
