Who doesn’t like nuts?
They make such a delicious and satisfying snack. But they’re so fattening some will say. And that’s probably so true if you have the entire contents of a package of nuts and especially if they’re very salted. When I talk about enjoying nuts, the amount is just a small handful.
However, let’s talk why so many are nuts about these delightful little nuggets. And later on, we’ll mention all the many health contributions they make to our overall health and wellness.
For openers, they can be part of your diet no matter what eating regimen you follow – Mediterranean, Keto, High Carb, Vegan, Standard American Diet (SAD – I hope not!), or any one of the many other choices that seem to pop up regularly.
They are handy and convenient when you feel a need to enjoy a small amount. There’s absolutely no preparation involved – just open the container and enjoy. As I’ve mentioned in other blogs, you can add raisins or cranberries for a delicious salty and sweet taste treat. And some even add little squares of cheese to the mix.
Many people are low in that important mineral magnesium so know that almonds, cashews, and peanuts in particular are high in this vital mineral. A handful a day of any one of these important nuts can help.
You will derive more benefits from eating nuts in their raw state.
When nuts are roasted or processed in any way, it changes their DNA. So eating nuts in their original state is what allows you all those nutritional advantages.
The ways you can use them are really endless. Look at these for instance:
Chop them up and use as topping for many dishes.
Add them to salads or cereals.
Cook some green beans and add some sliced almonds.
Add them to a smoothie (make sure they’re chopped up first)
Coat fish or meat with crushed nuts.
Add them to a muffin or brownie recipe.
Include some in a fresh fruit salad.
And here are the reasons why:
♥ They provide essential fatty acids, nutrients and protein.
♥ They contain the important Omega-3 fatty acids, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, dietetic fiber, vitamins A, B and E, and minerals (potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron).
♥ They help reduce inflammation.
♥ They contain arginine, an essential amino acid, which helps to keep blood vessel walls elastic and this aids in preventing high blood pressure.
♥ The essential amino acids found in nuts help to protect your brain.
♥ Their fiber aids your digestive health as it helps feed the healthy gut bacteria.
♥ The Vitamin E contained in nuts helps keep your skin healthy.
So don’t forget to include some nuts in your daily diet because we know that not only do you love them but that they absolutely love you!
